Induction message
Salaam Alaykum!
Thank you for enrolling onto an Xpress Quran course. Below is important information regarding your course.
Over the coming weeks we will support you on your journey to becoming a better reciter of the Quran. We really want to help you to strengthen your relationship with the Quran, to find joy in learning and reading it, and to improve quickly. There are three things that are an absolute must to achieve this:
Have a sincere and pure intention to commit to this course for the pleasure of Allah
Attend classes regularly and pay attention in class.
Do your homework consistently and exactly the way it is written in the homework message.
Communication
We will create a WhatsApp group chat before the course starts. The number you have provided will be added to this chat. Please ensure that all future communication with the teacher should take place through this chat only. Please download WhatsApp if you do not already have it.
After each class the teacher will send homework and handouts on the chat. Please note that these are property of Xpress Quran and exclusively for students of the course and should not be shared with anyone outside the class.
Classes will take place at the agreed time(s) each week. Although our teachers tend to send reminders before classes, this is not guaranteed so please do not rely on reminders and ensure you attend your classes.
Joining a class
The teacher will send a link to join the online class on WhatsApp before the first session. The link will also be in the group description. You can access WhatsApp from a computer via this link: web.whatsapp.com. If you have never used WhatsApp Web before, you can find instructions here: https://faq.whatsapp.com/web/download-and-installation/how-to-log-in-or-out/?lang=en
Classes will be held online via Microsoft Team, Zoom or Google Meet. It should be possible to join all of these via the browser but we recommend downloading the app if possible.
Please test that the link, your microphone and camera all work before you join your first class. Please note that it is mandatory to keep your camera on during class.
Please ensure that you use a device large enough to be able to view the online whiteboard. Phones are usually too small to read verses from.
Please make sure you join the class online.
Etiquette
During the class, we request that you:
Keep your camera on and dress modestly and appropriately for a Quran class.
Treat the teacher and others with respect. Repeated offences will lead to removal from the class due to disrupting the learning of others.
Listen and focus for the whole of the class so that all the content for that lesson can be taught in time.
Quran script and app
In class: The teacher will use the screen-sharing function to share an online copy of the Quran. You do not need to bring your own Quran to class.
At home: For practicing at home we strongly encourage the use of the Uthman Taha script as this is what will be used in class. An online version of this script can be found on quran.com. If you need help purchasing a physical copy, you can contact us for support.
App: Listening to the right reciters is an integral part of some of the homework. We send YouTube clips as part of the homework, but highly recommend using Al-Quran app for your homework, as it has:
All the reciters we tend to recommend – including Minshawi (murattal), Husary, and Husary Muallim.
The ability to play a specific range of verses.
The ability to repeat a specific range of verses, including with a delay between each verse if desired.
The Uthman Taha script, including a version that can be zoomed in or out.
The option to remove colour coding (we recommend to recite without colour coding).
The option to add or remove translation and word-by-word translation.
Compatibility with PC and mobile

Absence
Our absence policy is detailed in full below this message. Key points include:
Classes will proceed at the default time unless agreed otherwise.
If you are unavailable, try to reschedule the class for another time in the same week.
If you need to cancel a class, you must give minimum 24 hours’ notice. If sufficient notice is not given, the class will be charged for.
While we try to accommodate for one-off cancellations, repeated cancellations will lead to being charged for missed sessions. Full details are in the absence policy below.
When a course is finishing:
The teacher will ask you if you wish to continue classes. If you do, the teacher will assess where the student has reached and decide on next steps. This will either be:
An extension to the existing course.
The next course in the Xpress Quran pathway.
A bespoke, tailored course for the students (e.g., revision, memorisation, a blended course, etc).
Once this has been agreed, we will reach out to you to ask for payment. This should be completed before the new sessions begin.
Once a course is complete, we will ask you to submit a feedback form. This usually only takes 3-4 minutes but is extremely beneficial to us. It helps us strengthen the areas we did well, and we actively listen to feedback and adapt our courses.
Refund and Cancellation
We are happy to offer a refund for a booked place on any of our courses up to seven days before the first class of that course. Any cancellations after that period will not be refunded. All refunds will not include any transaction and processing fees incurred.
Now that we've covered the logistical stuff, let us pray to Allah to help us succeed in our efforts and keep our intention pure from beginning to end. We look forward to having you on our course!
Kind regards,
The Xpress Quran Institute
Absence policy
Absence
For us to run our classes in a way that is sustainable for us and fair to our teachers, our students, and those on our waiting list, we have devised the absence policy below:
Timing: Classes will proceed at the default time unless an alternative time is agreed. Students and coaches can reschedule a class within the same week instead of cancelling, but this can only work if all parties agree. There is no obligation to agree, but we ask both teachers and students to be flexible within reason. It is better to reschedule than to cancel.
Notice: Students are expected to give minimum 24 hours’ notice when cancelling a class, otherwise class is counted. This is because our Quran Coaches take dedicated time out for the class and protect a slot specifically for you and that slot is protected and other plans are made around it, and we are also obligated to pay them for this.
Cancellation: We ask students to attend regularly to avoid disruption to their own learning. However, we understand that occasionally circumstances may make this difficult – although we request to keep absence to a minimum. In such a case, first please try to reschedule to another time in the week. However, failing that, student absence is allowed for up to 25% of the total agreed sessions in a course. If a course is extended, absence allowance will reflect this. Please note that anything beyond this is counted as a paid-for class.
Lateness: If a student is late by up to 10 minutes, the teacher will wait online and then hold the class until the usual end time. If a student is more than 10 minutes late and does not notify the teacher, the teacher may log off and the class will be count as a paid-for class.
Emergencies: in emergency cases, we may make an exception – this will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
Teachers: if a teacher is unable to attend a class for any reason, they will give advanced notice of this.
Group Class Absence
Everything in the previous section about absence also applies to group classes.
Classes will go ahead unless there are many students absent, in which case the class may be counted as a cancelled class and postponed. This is at the discretion of the Quran Coach.
If you miss a class:
There is a summary handout shared at the end of each lesson. This will help attendees consolidate their learning and help absentees to catch up.
We also start each lesson with a recap of the previous lesson.
Please inform the teacher well in advance if you are to miss a class.
Long breaks
Students can request classes to be paused for up to a month and give a reason for why they would like this. These will be considered on a case-by-case basis and cannot be guaranteed. This will need to be agreed with the teacher but also signed off by the Management Team – and should be seen as a one-off rather than a regular thing. If a long break is agreed, students will not be charged for classes during the long break, but the long break will use up your remaining absence allowance for this course. However, where a high level of absence allowance has already been used, we may not be able to offer a long break.
If we are close to the end or at the end of the course, we will ask if you want to continue onto another course and agree the details before you go – that way we can protect the slot for you, or if you are not continuing, we can offer it to someone else to benefit from.
